5th IJP Alumni Conference

CLIMATE CHANGE

From October 19-21, 2011 IJP celebrated their 30th anniversary. Supporting this event, IJP held an almuni conference in Berlin on "Climate Change". A number of well-known speakers came to enlighten the audience with their sometimes provocative statements: Prof. Klaus Töpfer, Director Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, Potsdam; Prof. Dr. Ander Levermann of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research; Martin Kaiser, Head International Climate Policy Greenpeace, Hamburg as well as Prof. Claudia Kempfert, Head of Department for Energy and Environment, German Institute for Economic Research, Berlin. Others spoke on social issues related to climate change and of course the challenges for the world of business were not negleted.

Conference-goers attended an evening reception hosted by German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle. The meeting was just hours after the capture and killing of Libya's ex-leader Muammer Gaddafi, and Westerwelle described the event as an "historic moment" and evidence of "change in the world." One alumna said: "It was a remarkable day, and to have a foreign minister so loose and easy and bantering with journalists was a bit of an insider's treat."

More than 70 alumni and 30 guests from 20 countries joined the conference and more than 250 alumni attended the closing party on Friday night.
